Classics By Ear

Play the classical pieces you love, one pattern at a time

Each course teaches one famous piece. Robin finds the chords and repeating patterns underneath, then teaches you the piece in small sections with video, keyboard diagrams and annotated sheet music.

You don’t need to read music. You don’t need to finish Pianoforall first.

Why it works

Classical music is made of patterns too

Most classical scores look like hundreds of separate notes. Most of those notes belong to a handful of chords played in a repeating figure. Learn the figure and the chord order, and you have most of the piece.

Robin teaches each piece the way Pianoforall teaches everything else: listen, watch the hands, play a small section, then add the next. The written music sits alongside, so you can connect what you play to the notes on the page.

Each course includes

  • Short video lessons covering the whole piece
  • Keyboard diagrams for every section
  • Annotated sheet music with chords and fingering marked
  • Online course player plus offline downloads
  • The Piano Lounge community and help from Robin
  • Lifetime access, one payment

Questions about Classics By Ear

What are the Classics By Ear courses?

Short courses that each teach one classical work: Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (1st movement), Satie’s three Gnossiennes, or two Bach preludes. Robin breaks each piece into small sections and teaches the chords and patterns underneath, using video, keyboard diagrams and annotated sheet music.

Do I need to finish Pianoforall first?

No. Each Classics By Ear course stands on its own. If you’re new to piano, the Bach preludes and Satie’s first Gnossienne are gentler starting points than the Moonlight Sonata.

Do I need to read music for Classics By Ear?

No. You learn each section by watching, listening and following keyboard diagrams. The written music is there alongside, so you can connect what you play to the notes on the page as you go.

How does the 60-day guarantee work?

If Pianoforall isn’t right for you, ask for a refund within 60 days of buying. Email Robin and he will set it up, or request it directly from ClickBank, the retailer that handles payments. You don’t need to give a reason.

Robin has announced three Chopin collections for the series.
